Day 4 – Holy Land Tour

Posted on May 6, 2020November 8, 2023 by Norm

Today is DAY 4 (May 6).
It is hard to imagine a flash flood in the desert.
I’ve had only a few flash floods (sudden crises) in my life.
But I have had the experience of being stuck in the mud.
Right now it feels as if I am slogging through this virus lockdown.
I can rationalize my way forward, but I am not feeling it.
I am quickly tired, and it is hard to motivate myself to do the next task.
Or even to know what the next task is.
I don’t hear the roar of the flood coming, but I am feeling stuck.
In times like these the Psalms do express well the cry of the heart.
‘Lord, I am stuck, I need help, set me up on a rock!’
The video gave me images to picture when I read psalms like these.
“My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth!” (Psalm 121:2)

I think I will add ‘wadi deluge’ and to ‘stuck-in-the-mud’ to ‘burn-out’ – in terms of ‘crises’ or challenges in my life. Three times I was stuck in bed for over 3 weeks with serious illness – each time I really didn’t hear the ‘roar’ in the distance – but when I look back – the roar was there to warn. Thanks be to God for helping me through and reminding me whose I am. The current ‘life changing’ circumstances remind us of that – occasion for reflection and appreciation – longing for community! God enjoyed walking in the garden with us -so he sent Jesus – and now I may walk with him – now spiritually or with his disciples – someday totally.

think about it!

There is a desire within each of us, in the deep center of ourselves that we call our heart. We were born with it, it is never completely satisfied, and it never dies. We are often unaware of it, but it is always awake…. Our true identity, our reason for being, is to be found in this desire.
