Satan can’t beat this shepherd!

Posted on August 22, 2017August 22, 2017 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 14:27-31
“I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.” (Mark 14:27)
Jesus is quoting Zechariah 13:7-9, a passage of judgment against Israel’s leaders.
The “house of David” (Zechariah 13:1) had turned away from God (Zechariah 10:3).
God hands over the king and the people to the consequences of their sin.
Now Jesus, ‘Son of David’, is also caught in the judgment of sin.
But with one important difference… He was not cruel, immoral king.
Satan’s fury is unleashed, and the “little ones” are scattered.
But unlike all the other kings, Jesus is not destroyed – He overcomes!
Jesus beats Satan, sin, death and hell, and retains the crown.
The good shepherd beats the wolf, and is able to save the sheep.
Because of what happens to the king, the people are impacted… for good!
Satan tries to scatter us, but he cannot separate us from the love of God.
We may stumble, but Satan cannot snatch us from Jesus’ hand (John 10:28).
As a Jesus follower, I am no better than Peter or the others…
But Jesus is my hope, my confidence – the shepherd that keeps me safe!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are the Leader we need, the only one that can save us from sin and Satan’s fury. I am hanging on to You for dear life, because I know Satan cannot beat You!

    Peter’s denial.
    Peter falls.
And yet look how the Master used him.
We can not understand those suffering without being there ourselves. Our Master did it for us. And the disciples did suffer to help them in their ministry and did great things. We can not help others until we also have through the trials. But as Jesus prepared the way for Peter to serve and continued to be His shepherd, so too He continues to lead me as I continue to serve Him.

I am weak and I need Thy strength and power,
To help me over my weakest hour.
Let me through the darkness Thy face to see,
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

    Chorus
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord, let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

    Verse 2
Help me tread in the paths of righteousness.
Be my aid when Satan and sin oppress.
I am putting all my trust in Thee:
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

    Verse 3
I am lost if you take your hand from me,
I am blind without Thy light to see.
Lord just always let me thy servant be,
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

think about it!

At what point, then, does a theological fact become for the one that holds it a life-giving truth? At that point where obedience begins.
