The kind of prayer God supports!

Posted on July 24, 2017August 24, 2017 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 11:20-26
“What you ask in prayer, believe you have received it and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)
Prayer is not a technique to get something from God; it is a personal relationship.
When we bond with someone in love, we work together and support each other.
If one person moves, the other moves with them; they decide and work together.
Sadly many people look to prayer to make God work for them, for their will.
Jesus is partnering with God in a close way; when He acts, God acts with Him.
His cursing of the fig tree, for example, is a missional warning of love.
He is urging people to repent and receive God’s forgiveness.
Jesus is focused on what God wants and is committed to God’s purpose.
So long as “whatever we ask in prayer” is a kingdom prayer, we can count on God.
He will back us when we join in His kingdom purpose – including forgiveness (v.25).
Too much prayer is about asking for what we want, for God to meet our needs.
In the Lord’s prayer, we pray for daily bread, forgiveness and protection SO THAT…
God’s kingdom may come, His will be done, and His name be glorified.
Consider your own prayers; are these the kinds of prayers God loves to answer?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, grant me everything I need to honour Your Name, to advance Your kingdom, and fulfill Your will!

The barren fig tree – faithlessness. We are like that tree if we are unresponsive to His Word – rejecting His message.
But for faith to be responsive and fruitful and productive, it must be nourished by His Word and rooted in love.
I need to pray with faith in my service to Him. Expectant faith. And I need to live like Jesus if I desire God to hear my prayers – loving God and loving neighbour. Serving God and serving my neighbour. Help me Lord to be a servant true.

    Make me a servant
    Humble and meek
    Lord let me lift up
    Those who are weak
    And may the prayer
    Of my heart always be
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant today

    Make me a servant
    Humble and meek
    Lord let me lift up
    Those who are weak
    And may the prayer
    Of my heart always be
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant today

    Make me a servant
    Humble and meek
    Lord let me lift up
    Those who are weak
    And may the prayer
    Of my heart always be
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant today

    Of my heart always be
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant
    Make me a servant today

think about it!

We ought not to grow tired of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.
