Avoiding obedience!?

Posted on June 5, 2017June 5, 2017 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 7:9-13
“You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.” (Mark 7:13)
As Jesus followers we need to be aware of how we read the bible.
God speaks through the bible, and the Spirit convicts our hearts as we read.
But because conviction is not pleasant, we may look for loopholes.
Like the religious leaders of Jesus’ day, we find a way around obeying God.
Each one of us needs to search our own heart on this.
I’m not talking about obscure disputable matters that many disagree on.
I’m talking about the clear teaching of Jesus, like loving our enemy.
Forgiving those who hurt us, being generous to those in need.
Are we pressing towards obeying, or making excuses for why it doesn’t apply?
Which word of Jesus am I avoiding, and what does that say about my heart?
Who am I not forgiving, because in THAT case they should not be given?
Who am I not helping, because in THAT case they should not be helped?
Who am I not loving, because in THAT case they should not be loved?
Following Jesus is not easy, but He can help us… IF we want Him to.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, show me in my heart where I am making excuses or using loopholes to justify my lack of devotion or obedience to You. Help me to strive to be good, not just look good.

The Gospel in one word is Love.
    The greatest command is Love.
    Love God.
    Love your neighbour.
I need to live that each day.
    No excuses.
Others must be able to see that I am Christian by my love.
And in order to do just that I must dress myself this day with His armour so that I can live the fruit of the Spirit.
I need to be His SonBeam.

    1. Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,
    To shine for Him each day;
In ev’ry way try to please him,
At home, at school, at play.

    2. Jesus wants me to be loving
And kind to all I see,
    Showing how pleasant and happy
    His little one can be.

    Chorus
    A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
    A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.

think about it!

To risk is to lose one’s foothold for a while; not to risk is to lose one’s self forever.
