One wish to rule them all!

Posted on December 26, 2016December 25, 2016 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 20:29-34
“What do you want me to do for you?” (Matthew 20:32)
As a child, I recall Bill Lawrence on Tiny Talent Time asking kids to make just one wish.
What would I wish for, what one thing would I use my one wish on?
Most of the ‘things’ I wished for then would already be gone, outdated, or broken.
(Except one time my wish was to have a free wish every day of my life!!!).
Jesus gives these blind men one wish, and they both ask for their sight back.
I wonder if they ever came to regret their wish?
Being able to see is great, but what if what we see is not so great?
How about wishing for world peace, an end to injustice and suffering, no more tears?
These are great wishes, but if we remain selfish and sinful, we will only ruin them.
‘Change our hearts, God’, this is the only wish that can really make a difference.
This is what we NEED God to do for us, but is it what we WANT God to do for us?
Jesus suggests a good wish, a wish that will make all of our dreams come true!
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
What would you ask for if Jesus asked you, “What do you want me to do for you?”
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, what I need, and what I want, should be the same thing, but often they’re not. Align my wants with my needs, that I may find true love, joy and peace!

    As in third world countries today, those who have any kind of disability are the outcasts of society. We experience this also with of food distributions in Haiti. And yet Jesus hears their voice. Do we? Do I?
    And what is our basic need? The blind wanted their sight. They wanted to see and be like all those around them. Yet when they received their sight, whom did they follow?
    JESUS!
    You and I have our sight. Whom do you and I follow? Who is in charge of my life? My way or His Way.
    Today there is a Make a Wish Foundation and they make the wishes of terminally ill children come true. And their wishes are things of this world which will come to an end. But the ability to see what God wants for us in our lives today will last in this life and the next.
    Lord, give us the eyes that see You each and every day.
    Be Thou our vision always.
    Help us to see You each day anew.

    Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
    Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art;
    Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
    Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
    2
    Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
    I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
    Thou my great Father and I, Thy true son;
    Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
    3
    Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise;
    Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
    Thou and Thou only, first in my heart;
    O King of glory, my treasure Thou art.
    4
    O King of glory, my victory won;
    Rule and reign in me ’til Thy will be done;
    Heart of my own heart, whatever befall;
    Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
