The strength of our anchor

Posted on July 10, 2015July 9, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: 2 Timothy 1:1-2:13
“I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12)
Paul urges Timothy to stay loyal – unlike Phygelus and Hermogenes, like Onesiphorus.
It can’t have been easy for Paul, to have supporters turn from God and from him.
He put everything – his very life – on the line, and others were letting him down.
But Paul does not sound discouraged; in fact he sounds very confident.
Confident that the God he believed in is loyal, reliable, faithful, trustworthy.
Paul has entrusted his whole life to Him, and is confident that He will keep it secure to the end.
Do you have this kind of confidence in God, even when life circumstances let you down?
Even when the people you are counting on for support are no longer there for you?
Paul’s anchor is not people, nor circumstances, it is Jesus Christ, and God, and the Spirit.
Do not be surprised at the instability or uncertainty of life in this world.
Life’s storms prove the strength of our anchor!
We can count on the stability and certainty of God – He will never let us down.
“If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. (2 Timothy 2:11-13)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I admit I do put hope in people and circumstances. I don’t want to think about their letting me down, but if that happens, remind me to hang on to You, and know that You will not let us down.

    Observations/Application
God’s faithfulness from generation to generation is a reason for thankfulness. God enables us through His grace to stand firm as witnesses to the Light in Christ Jesus. The gift of the Spirit helps us to stay strong. GodStrong.
Be a soldier of the cross serving Jesus, the Master of all. Stay the course. Be faithful living the Good New day by day. Be a light shining the Light in all you do and say serving the Creator King.
Help me this day Lord to be GodStrong.

Am I a soldier of the cross,
    A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His Name?

Must I be carried to the skies
    On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
    And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

    Sure I must fight if I would reign;
    Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
    Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
    Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
    By faith’s discerning eye

When that illustrious day shall rise,
    And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through skies,
    The glory shall be Thine.

think about it!

In the practice of the presence of God we call Our Father to mind at every possible moment. At every opportunity, we focus our attention on Him and silently say, “Thank You, Father” throughout each day.
