Battle prayer!

Posted on October 19, 2014October 18, 2014 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 108
“Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless.” (Psalm 108:12-13)
In bible times, war and violence were normal, people groups were always fighting.
There were no police or courts or constitutions or United Nations.
In that context, God was raising up a nation founded on justice and morality and mercy and generosity.
At least, that is what they were supposed to be working for – they often became like everyone else.
The enemies we face today are very different from what David faced, but they are just as real.
And behind all tensions and conflict are the “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)
I experience this battle often, even right now in the community around me.
People under emotional, spiritual, relational attack, their lives falling apart, their hope being lost.
Like David, my am keeping my hope in God for aid against the enemy.
I have learned that “human help is worthless” without God’s support.
I am rediscovering the necessity and urgency of battle prayer.
And I keep reminding myself, like David, of where our hope lies.
“With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.” (Psalm 108:12-13)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, people I love are under attack – despairing, giving, thinking they’d be better off dead. Please trample down the enemy that is lying to them. Please show them that You love them.

    Observation/Application
    Sing praises.
    Sing praises for our God is an awesome God.
    His love endures forever
    and
    His glory is everywhere.
    Open my eyes Lord.
    Some trust in horses but my God gives the victory.
    Put all your hope and trust in Him.
    He is the Lord.
    Victory and honour and power are only in Him.
    There is no other source.
    He is the Source
    of all of living.
    Lead me. Guide me.
    My hope is in the Lord God
    the Creator of all things.
    Praise Him.

    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

think about it!

Unless we rely on God’s power within us, we will yield to the pressures around us.
