Selah, the sound of resting in God

Posted on August 11, 2013August 12, 2013 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 46
We may not feel what this psalm expresses, but repeating these words can help you feel it more.
Our world may be falling apart, the nations may be in disorder, but God remains in charge.
Because God is here, the world will not fall, He will help those who honor Him.
To defy God is like defying the sun: no matter what you need it, you are doomed without it.
It is the centre of our planetary existence, and everything depends on our relationship to it.
God is not an enemy, God is not a cruel Being; God wants to bless and benefit us.
Allow God to be the centre of your life, allow God to be Your safety, your strength, your help.
In the middle of all the storms and crises, cling to God and know that God clings to you.
Selah – an unknown Hebrew musical term – has a restful, peaceful sense, like a sigh.
Rest, relax, breathe deep and express these words daily, whether you feel them or not: be still and know, be still and know, be still and know… He is with us, He is for us, He will help us!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
God, selah! You are God, You are good, I choose to rest in You!

    Observations/Application
God, our God is with us in all circumstances. The river reminds me of the Psalmists words about blessed is he who is planted by the river in Psalm 1. That man is secure in the Lord. God is my God and my salvation. I need to remember His faithfulness. I need to be still in His presence and see what He has done in my life. He is my fortress, my Rock, my salvation.

    Prayer
Lead me each day anew Lord to the shelter under Your wings for You are my shield, my Protector, my Rock.

    Come into His presence, singing,
    ‘Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia’.
    Come into His presence, singing,
    ‘Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia’.

    Come into His presence, singing,
‘Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord.’
    Come into His presence, singing,
‘Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord.’

    Come into His presence, singing,
‘Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God.’
    Come into His presence, singing,
‘Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God.’

think about it!

A Christ-centered life is like a good watch: open face, busy hands, pure gold, and full of good works.
