kiss or spit?

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 2

OBSERVATIONS
1. This psalm has a double focus. It speaks to David’s kingship in Israel, but also to the future Messiah’s reign. David is a pattern of the future messiah, who will be attacked, rejected, yet ultimately victorious. ”When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.” (2 Samuel 7:12).

2. History is filled with rulers that have defied and despised God, yet God laughs. God’s kingdom is being restored, the reign of terror will end. Rulers rise and fall, attempts are made to silence and stop the message of Jesus, but God’s promise is secure, His appointed ruler (Jesus the messiah) is on the throne. Ask communist leaders in Russia, China or Cuba how easy it is to silence and stop faith in Jesus Christ.
3. God’s appointed ruler is a refuge (a safe and good place to be) for those who acknowledge and accept Him as Lord, but a danger to those who reject Him. To ‘kiss the son’ is honour Him, while those who despise Him ‘spit’ in His face. One day every person will they stand before God and Jesus, will they kiss or spit?
What do you notice in this passage?

APPLICATION
1. Kiss or spit, how do I treat Jesus? Open or closed to His authority and will in my life? I am not talking formally but practically. Do I actually obey the heart and will of Jesus, with willing joy? Do I forgive those who hurt me, serve those who mistreat me, love those who hate me, give generously to those who need me? Am I quick to confess my sin if I do something wrong, or do I try to deny or hide it?
2. Do I love the king, or just use Him to make my life easier, happier, safer? Are my prayers all about me? Do I ask and ask and ask, but hold back on giving or serving? Jesus is not my butler, He is my king. He is asking for my devotion. He wants me to join Him in His mission to rescue God’s childen and restore God’s family. Believing in Jesus is not just about being ‘saved’, but ‘saved to serve Jesus my king’. Kiss or spit?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?

think about it!

Every one says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive.
