Jesus-focused bible reading

Posted on September 20, 2012March 31, 2017 by Norm

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. [Luke 24:27]
For the last 5 years I have been going through the bible one chapter each day, and I have posted my SOAP reflections to help others in their own reading.
For each of those reflections, I tied in a gospel quote or passage, to show how Jesus is revealed through every part of the bible.

Starting in Sunday, September 30, I am starting a new daily bible-reading plan.
This new plan focuses primarily on the Gospels/Acts, on Jesus and His life and teaching and impact in the world.

This new plan works as follows:
— Sunday (Day 1): A Psalm
— Monday-Thursday (Days 2-5): a Gospel/Acts reading
— Friday-Saturday (Days 6-7): multiple readings from the OT or NT
Some people said to me that even reading one chapter a day was too much, and that if they fell behind, they had a hard time catching up.
This new schedule allows for people to start small, and grow as they are able.
For those who struggle with so much reading, I recommend that you read only the Gospels (Days 2-5).
As you are able, add the Psalm (Day 1) at the beginning of the week.
The weekend readings (Days 6-7) are larger chunks of reading, but you should be able to read through them in under an hour.

I do believe that God does speak through all of scripture, but I do believe that knowing Jesus is the key to understanding the rest of the bible.
This new bible-reading plan is designed to keep the focus on Jesus, so that He remains the heart of our bible-reading.
You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. [John 5:39-40]

Please join me in meeting Jesus again for the first time, to seeing how He is the answer to all our deepest needs, and how He is the source of forgiveness, freedom and fullness of life.
I will be posting my new SOAP reflections starting on September 30, and I would love for you to add your comments as well.

think about it!

He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.
