How Jesus continues to do and to teach!

Posted on October 12, 2026October 12, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Acts 1:1-11

“In my former book, Theophilus I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven.” (Acts 1:1-2)

The book of Acts was written by Luke as Part 2 of Jesus’s story.
Part One goes through His birth, life, death and resurrection.
It covers what Jesus “began to do and to teach.”
Part Two covers what Jesus ‘continued to do and to teach’ AFTER His resurrection.
This book is not the Acts of the Apostles but the Acts of Jesus, the Ascended Lord.

The book of Acts is the continuation of Jesus’s story, and it continues today.
My goal is to read this book from the perspective of what Jesus was and is doing.
Through this, we will also learn to read our own stories in the same way.
Jesus is still working, still bringing God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
He fills His followers with His Spirit, so they can continue His mission.

Though Jesus is in heaven, He is with us to the very end of the age.
He still suffers with us, cares for us, walks with us, saves, heals, helps and leads us.
He uses ordinary people to extend God’s gracious love to the ends of the earth.
We are witnesses, we point to Jesus and to what He said and did, and still does.
May the actions (Acts) of the Church continue the story of Jesus wherever He sends us.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, may we keep the story of Acts going today. As You began, continue to do and to teach God's goodness through Your followers today.

As a follower of Jesus, I need to become more like Jesus. His disciples followed Him 24/7 to become like their Rabbi. His disciples continued to practice what Christ had taught them and I too need to continue to practice the Way – living for Jesus.

think about it!

We fail in our duty to study God’s Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy.
