Reflecting on John 19:28-37“The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.” (John 19:35)
Jesus commissioned His disciples to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8)
In other words, tell everyone what you have seen and heard.
In his first letter, John writes: “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched — this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.” (1 John 1:1)
John is simply witnessing to how he experienced Jesus.
He wanted people to believe, and insisted he was telling the truth.
Jesus followers are also commissioned to witness to their experience of Jesus.
We need to be sincere and honest, and not make things up.
Our goal is like John’s, so that people may also believe.
We cannot make people believe, and we shouldn’t lie to help them believe.
Share your experience as it is, and trust the Spirit of Jesus to do the rest.
How has Jesus impacted your life, what different does Jesus make to you?
People will have to experience Jesus for themselves; your sincere honesty can help.
Don’t pressure or guilt people to believe; share your story, and let the facts speak.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I am not only commissioned, I am empowered by Your Spirit. Use my honest and sincere account of my experience as it is to compel others to experience you too. I want people to believe in You, but I do not want to mislead them beyond what I have seen and heard for myself.
I too need to be a living witnessofJesus Christ and what He has done for me by my words and deeds. Telling my story, sharing His story needs to be part of my living for Jesus. May others see that God lives in me and by His spirit, may others see that too. I am Christian, Christ living in me and I in Him for He ismy driving Force.
