Reflecting on Luke 19:45-48“’My house will be a house of prayer’…” (Luke 19:46)
God did not live in the temple as a house.
But it did symbolically remind the people God was with them.
Prayer is more than talking to God, it is our whole relationship.
It is how we live and fellowship with God, with or without words.
God is more interested in relationship, than in temples and sanctuaries.
The religious leaders put up walls between God and the people.
They were putting a price on getting in, making it hard to get in.
We no longer need a temple; Jesus is our ‘meeting place’.
Jesus is God’s open door to his heart, inviting us all in.
As those who know Jesus, are we as eager to let people in?
Or do we put up walls and barriers, demanding a price to get in?
If Jesus lets us into God’s house, he can let anyone in.
Anyone who wants to receive and live in his love is welcome.
The only ones he drives out are the ones that make it hard for others.
Am I more of an open door for Jesus, or more of a wall?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, it seems to me that many people outside of the church are still open to You and Your words, but they just can't get past the church. May there be more open door churches in every neighbourhood where people meet God in You.
In the book of Acts, the disciples proclaimed God’s Word to all who listened, even to the Gentiles and they accepted the Gospel and were baptised and their whole households. Freely give and openly receive as Christ did. I need to be a stepping stoneand not a stumbling block.
