Sing to the king!

Posted on August 6, 2023August 8, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 45

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever.” (Psalm 45:6)
In this ode to the king, David is described as God (vv.6-7) in this world.
This is how we can see ourselves as God’s image-bearers: we represent God in the world.
But what is shocking to me is how David, a flawed and sinful human, can do this?
It is no wonder that Adam and Eve were chosen to represent God, until they rebelled.
It is a great wonder that humans can continue to represent God, with all our flaws.
Wonderful king David, and his princess, and his harem of wives and virgins.
Honourable king David, guilty of violating Bathsheba and murdering her husband Uriah.
I am not judging David, I am marveling at God’s grace in using him… and us!
The one human representative that stands out is Jesus, also known as the ‘Son of David’.
The author of Hebrews uses this text to describe God’s forever throne (Hebrews 1:8-9).
Jesus alone is wonderful, honourable, and establishes God’s rule with righteousness.
By faith we stand with him, and reign with him, and represent God in the world.
God and Jesus, not the church, not me or any other representative, deserve the praise.
May we as Jesus followers honour them by how we live, serve and sing to the king!
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for reminding me again of God’s amazing grace, who works with us despite our flaws and sin. May your Spirit continue to make me more and more like you, the perfect king!

    “You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
    Oh to be blessed with the oil of joy! We find it in Jesus who fully meets the accolades in this Psalm. Through his gift of the HS to us, we too have been given and ‘oil of joy’. That joy is contentment and purpose in living – with opportunities to share of that Joy along life’s pathway. Help me Lord to be faithful in conveying that Joy! The Good news joy!

    God’s throne is established forever. May I continue to honour Him in all I do and say for He is my Lord. I too am Your representative in all I do and say. May Your Spirit continue to lead and guide me daily as I give You all the praise as You continue to make me an instrument of Your peace.

    1 Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    2 Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    3 Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

think about it!

Prayer is an upward leap of the heart, an untroubled glance toward heaven, a cry of gratitude and love which I utter from the depths of sorrow as well as from the heights of joy. It has a supernatural grandeur which expands the soul and unites it with God.
