Just as Christ loved us

Posted on May 19, 2023May 18, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Exodus 3-4

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” (Exodus 4:25)
God chooses to work through Israel, and Moses, but it is not an easy relationship.
Moses makes excuses and resists God’s plan, as Israel does too… and the church.
For God to work with us takes great patience, mercy and sacrifice.
I’m not sure what happened with in 4:24-26, but something wasn’t right.
Yet through Zipporah we see what it means for God to be in union with us.
In a real sense, our ‘marriage’ with God is one of blood, sweat and tears for God.
Aside from the cultural baggage in this story, I see a hint of our relationship with God.
“Love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” (Ephesians 5:25-27)
Jesus is a bridegroom of blood to us, dying to rescue and restore us.
Jesus is our Zipporah, humbling himself to wash our feet, to make us whole.
Like this story, messy and ugly, Jesus gives himself for us, an amazing act of humble love.
PRAYER
Lord, surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me. I do not deserve to have you wash my feet, and yet I need it. Thank you for being like Zipporah to me.

“And when they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.” The Lord cares about us – that is the reassurance we need to hear. He also disciplines those whom He loves. May I see it that way Lord – that all you do and how you guide me with your HS is because of your love and concern for me. Yes the Israelites grew as a nation in Egypt – and they could have gotten comfortable there – but Pharaoh oppressed them to the point where they needed to go – God was ready to call them out and establish them as a nation in their own land that He had promised to them through Abraham. Yes, there may be difficult times but through it all God cares for me! Thank you Lord.

    God will make a way.
All too often I think like Moses – I do not have the gifts to voice God’s way – to be used as an instrument of His peace. There is always the thought that I am not good enough or I am unable to have the right words or just the fear of standing up for Jesus. But Just like Moses, God provided a way for him to be His servant. Help me Lord to do the same as I live for You. You always make a way for Your people if they but trust and obey. Increase my faith Lord over my fear.

    God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
    Heaven and Earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today

    God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

Oh, God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
    He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

think about it!

Some people think God does not like to be troubled with our constant coming and asking. The way to trouble God is not to come at all.
