How is Jesus following me?

Posted on March 5, 2023March 4, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 23

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6)
I am used to thinking about how I am to follow Jesus.
But here David talks about the Lord’s goodness and love following him.
Wherever he is, wherever he goes, David senses God’s goodness and love backing him.
Jesus is ‘God with me’ on the mountain top, at the riverside, and through the valley.
I am a Jesus follower, and Jesus is a Norman follower – what a powerful thought.
I am loved wherever I am, and hiss goodness surrounds me wherever I go.
This is usually a good thing, when I want to feel the Lord near me.
When I am troubled, or tired, or discouraged, or wanting to give up.
I find it very reassuring to pay attention to his goodness and love with me.
But what about those times when I am not so proud of what I am saying or doing.
Even then his goodness and love surround me, gently warning, guiding and loving me.
It is not just me trying to follow him, he is following me.
“He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” (Psalm 23:3)
Can you sense the Lord behind you, gently nudging and encouraging you?
PRAYER
Lord, you follow me to help me, warn me, bless me, strengthen me, guide me. I cannot be a Jesus follower without you being a me follower! Thank you!

Following my Shepherd Jesus blesses me in so many ways. The one phrase that stood out for me is this one: “he leads me beside quiet waters,”. I tend to be fretful, so this one is important – especially when I’ve experienced some stress. I need a quiet moment – to regroup – to reflect and take in the larger picture – so that my focus is drawn away from the immediate and brings me back to what is important: my relationship to Jesus. I am blessed with the HS – and he is there and draws me back. It helps me stay in stride.

    Emmanuel.
    God with us.
The psalmist reminds me that the Lord God is with me at all times. He leads and guides me always – in my joys and in my sorrows. I just need an open heart with open eyes to see His presence that I dwell in. I am never alone. What I promise! What comfort! I am living in His presence this day and every day – living for Jesus – as He continues to lead and guide me always.

Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
I am tired and I need thy strength and power
To guide me over my darkest hour
For just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray
Or just open my eyes that I may see
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
I am lost if you take your hand from me
I am blind without thy light to see
Lord just always let me thy servant be
Lead me oh lord, won’t you lead me
Lead me, guide me along the way
For if you lead me I cannot stray

think about it!

What a wee little part of a person’s life are his acts and his words! His real life is led in his head, and is known to none but himself.
