Talk with, listen to… Jesus!

Posted on March 1, 2023February 28, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 17:1-8

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“There appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.” (Matthew 17:3)
Moses were considered two of the greatest prophets who God spoke through.
The Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah) were the Jews most important teaching.
When Jesus comes, he is assessed and judged on the basis of Moses and Elijah.
In this vision, Jesus is metamorphosized (the actual Greek word) before their eyes.
They know that Moses and Elijah are robed with God’s glory, but now Jesus is too.
Peter insists on setting up 3 tabernacles (actual Greek word), one for each.
But the Voice of God has different intentions: “this is my son… listen to him!” (17:5)
Not 3 tabernacles (meeting place with God) but one; Jesus, not Moses or Elijah.
The Law and the Prophets are to be assessed and judged on the basis of Jesus.
Jesus is the heart of God’s self-revelation, all else points to him.
Jesus does not just reflect God’s glory (like Moses and Elijah), he IS God’s glory.
Jesus is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3).
This is why I listen to Jesus, and then with Jesus I consider the rest of the bible.
Like Moses and Elijah, I want to talk with Jesus, so that I can reflect his glory too!
PRAYER
Lord, talking with you and listening to you is such a blessing for me. Thank you for helping me unpack scripture so that I may know and follow God and you better!

“Listen to him” – God speaking – telling us to listen to Jesus. In the time leading up to the night in which I accepted Jesus – as he was coming to me. I was convinced – I knew I had to listen to him – accept Jesus for who he claimed to be. God telling the 3 disciples to listen – telling me as a disciple today – to listen. Is there any higher invocation – any higher than God himself! Lord I believe, I want to listen – help me overcome my own independence and submit more and more to you – HS work in my heart so I might listen and do!

This is the second time that the Lord God spoke about His Son, Jesus. And that He was pleased with Him. I need to listen to Him. He is the answer to all things and there is none other. He needs to be my Guardian and Guide in all I do and say. I need to listen to Him. I need to be Spirit driven to do that. Jesus Saviour pilot me each day.

    Jesus, Savior, pilot me,
    Over life’s tempestuous sea:
    Unknown waves before me roll,
    Hiding rocks and treach’rous shoal;
Chart and compass come from Thee–
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me!

think about it!

When you read God’s Word, you must constantly be saying to yourself, “It is talking to me, and about me.”
