It is not rocket science!

Posted on December 16, 2022December 15, 2022 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Micah 5-6

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)
You may have heard the expression ‘It is not rocket science’.
What that means is that the answer is not complicated or need a degree to figure out.
Usually we know what good is, and when something is not good.
Most everyone would agree that justice (or fairness) is good.
Most would admit that mercy is also good, when they are the one’s needing it.
And most people would rather work with a humble person than an arrogant person.
I believe that God has revealed goodness to all people in one way or another.
The problem is that we blur the lines of goodness when it serves ourselves.
We are driven by a self-love that justifies being good to ourselves over others.
And that is when people – children, families, the weak, and whole nations – are hurt.
Jesus is recognized by many people to be the exception… ‘a good person’.
He is more than that, but he is not less than that, and that part if very important.
His goodness is what God honours when he says, ‘this is my Son, listen to him!’
It is not rocket science; God wants us to be just, merciful and humble.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for showing us what it means to be good… for being just, merciful and humble. Help me by your good Spirit to reflect this goodness today!

In this passage there is a glimpse into the future pointing to Jesus – gives hope in the midst of prophetic punishment. God’s people have turned from their God – and turned to the gods of the nations around them – not loving God and also not their neighbour – people are neglected and treated unfairly. The prophet says, what you must do is “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly[f] with your God.” So must we. Our own pride and ‘taking care of self first’ has to stop. I have to humble myself, recognize what God can do through me rather than what I can on my own – I have to have compassion for those around me and love them as I God loves them – shown by Jesus – the hope foretold in this passage as well! Lord help me to be more like you Lord Jesus!

Do this and live. That is what the Master says. Live and do this. Not my way but His. My way leads to destruction but His Way is The Way which leads to LIFE eternal. Focus on Him also today. Today is a gift to serve Him. He has shown us the Way. Follow Him. Walk with Him.

1 Have thine own way, Lord!
    Have thine own way!
    Thou art the potter,
    I am the clay.
    Mold me and make me
    after thy will,
    while I am waiting,
    yielded and still
