What can we do?

Posted on December 11, 2022December 10, 2022 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 11

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
What does David mean by the foundations being destroyed?
In the Psalm he explains it: the wicked love violence (v.5), not justice (v.7).
When violent greed, lust or cruelty take over, the foundations are destroyed.
For the foundations are love for God and love for people (i.e. God’s Law of Love).
So what can the righteous (those committed to the Lord’s way) do?
They can take refuge in the Lord and in the Lord’s way.
This means resting in the Lord’s love, loving the Lord AND loving people.
Don’t join in on the unloving behaviour; instead double down on the Lord’s will.
Love justice even more, refuse to sling your own hurtful arrows (vv.1-2).
David lets God take care of the judgment (fiery coals and burning sulphur).
We do the same by heaping kindness and grace on our enemies (a kind of burning coal).
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” (Romans 12:20)
This is what the righteous can do when the foundations are destroyed – am I doing this?
PRAYER
Lord, something in me wants to fight back, to sling my own arrows. Help me not to destroy the foundations of love and justice by fighting evil with evil.

The Psalmist asks the question: “When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” The Psalmist answers – take refuge in the Lord, “He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.” god watches over me – I need not fear. Though it may seem dismal – and the news is bad – Lord help me to see you and to trust in your amazing love and grace! Yes, Lord I trust in you – help me overcome my own anxiousness and be at peace – look on me and grant me peace!

At all times I need to praise the living God. He is my Refuge and I need daily to live for Him. I need to dress myself each day with His armour so that others may see the fruit of the Spirit in me. I need to live for Jesus each day – Christian by name showing the same love He has for me to those around me. I need always to do His will – the Jesus way.

    At all times
    All times
    I will bless the Lord
    At all times [x2]

    Strong and courageous
    Mighty in battle
    He’s fighting for us
    The victory is ours

    Put on your armor
    The sword of the spirit
    Our weapon is worship
    The victory is ours
    Shout out to Jesus

    At all times
    All times
    I will bless the Lord
    At all times [x2]

    Praise Him in the valley
    Praise Him on the mountain
    Praise Him in the heavens
    The victory is ours

    Worship while you’re weeping
    Worship while you’re waiting
    Worship while you’re winning
    The victory is ours
    Shout out to Jesus
    Shout out to Jesus

    At all times
    All times
    I will bless the Lord
    At all times [x4]

    At all times
    All times
    I will bless the Lord
    At all times…
