Seeing what is in my heart

Posted on October 15, 2021October 14, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Proverbs 27-28

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.” (Proverbs 27:19)
Wisdom is taking time to reflect on life, and on the lives we live.
My life as it is now is exactly the way it is because of the steps I have taken.
And the steps we have taken reveal the strength or weakness of our heart.
The heart in Jewish thinking is the spiritual command center of the person.
The inner me – my mind, will and emotions – are centered in my heart.
How I think, how I choose, how I feel, these are what shape my life.
For myself, I can see how my life reveals a weak and unwise heart.
I give in to thoughts, situations, fears, temptations too easily.
And my life as it is now is the result of this.
Reading the bible for me is like looking in the water and seeing my reflection.
It is not the bible itself, but the Spirit of Jesus gently revealing my heart.
He is a friend to me (see NIV note), he is not being mean but being kind.
My life, reflected on with Jesus through the wisdom of scripture, opens my eyes.
And this morning again the Lord is showing me my heart, and my need for his help.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for showing me that my current state of affairs is a reflection of the condition of my heart. Show me next what I can do with your help to strengthen my heart and life.

    Reading this section – so many wise sayings – calling on me to have discernment. Yet I realize that the discernment I need I can not depend on myself – then I would be foolish as many of the proverbs indicate. I need to have a discerning heart that works from a deeper platform – a Jesus platform. It is the HS that I can count on to guide me, if I don’t get in the way – and when I do I’m sure I suffer the consequences as many of these proverbs indicate. Oh HS help me to be wise and discerning – not led by my own ego and pride. It’s all about you Jesus – not me! HS you are more than a book of proverbs to me – for you are the discerning spirit I need!

    Each and every day I need the Lord to guard and guide my way. I need to trust in Him in all I do walking in His ‘Sonshine’ showing me the way so that I will be a person of integrity. His Word must be my Guide always. Help me to have open ears to hear You each day anew as I live for Jesus.

    Jesus, Savior, pilot me
    Over life’s tempestuous sea;
    Unknown waves before me roll,
    Hiding rock and treach’rous shoal;
    Chart and compass come from Thee;
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

think about it!

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.
