The prodigal sons!

Posted on June 24, 2021June 23, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 15:25-32

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“You are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” (Luke 15:31)
This chapter begins with the muttering of the religious leaders.
Jesus is intentionally speaking to them through this older son.
The older son represents the ‘already saved’ who’ve forgotten God’s grace.
Their faith has become more of a routine or duty, not a delight.
“I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders.” (Luke 15:29)
Sadly, we can make it hard for others ‘less holy’ to be welcomed into the family.
This parable should probably better be called ‘the prodigal sons’.
Out of both sons, which one ended up closer to the father?
I’ve seen how converted sinners often make the most dynamic believers.
They know what grace means, they know that their belonging is 100% a gift.
Jesus reminds me of what a great blessing it is to know Jesus.
That he is ALWAYS with me, and that EVERYTHING he has is mine too!
Like the father to the older son, Jesus is pleading with me too (v.28).
Never forget, “You are always with me, and everything I have is yours.” (Luke 15:31)
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for this assurance. Help me to be eager to welcome and bless others with this amazing assurance too!

Am I so caught up in myself? Am I missing the point? Do I really care about the ‘saving of others’ – am I too comfortable in my own life that I neglect the real purpose of why I have been resourced! I have to admit it – yes! Too often I am not ready to respond – too late as I pass by in my own busyness. Help me Lord to condition myself to be ready to respond to needs around me. Help me be like the Father – welcoming someone who has come to their senses and is coming home – to celebrate that and welcome them!

God’s grace was and is prodigal – He gives on a lavish scale – extravagant. My God is an awesome God and may I never forgets His goodness or for granted. All who are His may celebrate of His goodness – like the thief on the cross. He too came home.

Our God is an awesome God
    He reigns from heaven above
    With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

think about it!

Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.
