My name on the list too?

Posted on February 26, 2021February 26, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Chronicles 24-27

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Here is the list of the men who performed this service…” (1 Chronicles 25:1)
If you are like me, you tend to skip the lists of names in the bible.
Why would lists of names be inspired by God, how are they helpful or inspiring?
And yet a list becomes important if you think your name might be on there.
I’ve scoured articles or lists intensely when I thought my name might be there.
“Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)
My name is not on this specific list, but it is written on God’s list.
I am listed with those assigned to the task of serving the Lord.
I was commissioned when I accepted the promise of Jesus’s baptism.
To be a Jesus follower is to be called to serve with, like and for Jesus.
It is not enough to just be on the list, am I actively doing something for Jesus?
According to this list in Chronicles, every person had unique gifts and roles.
What are my gifts, and how am I using them in the service of Jesus?
If you are a Jesus follower, your name is on the list too.
How or where are you actively using your gifts to serve the Lord?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for assigning me a place in your service, and for assuring me my labour is not in vain!

When I read all these names and how King David respectfully assigned each family, each clan its specific tasks also in accordance with the assignments Moses had given – I feel reassured- order and clearly assigned responsibility give clarity to all and ensures that all the different aspects of running a kingdom or even a business or even a church are taken care off. I also see how God has multiplied his people and how they were were now taking charge of the ‘promised’ land – God’s promises fulfilled. I too need to look back and when I do – I see where God has taken me – both in tough and insecure times and in the good times! Praised be the Lord – all those names are important and they all add up to an abundance of blessing!

I am called to serve. My name is engraved on the palm of His hand. He knows my name and I need to live for Jesus in all my doings. He has an army serving Him and I am but one. Help me this day Lord to be a servant true.

    I have a maker
    He formed my heart,
    Before even time began
My life was in his hands

    He knows my name
    He knows my every thought,
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

    I have a father,
    He calls me his own
    He’ll never leave me,
    No matter where I go

think about it!

We fail in our duty to study God’s Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy.
