Baptized with Jesus!

Posted on January 28, 2021January 27, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 3:21-38

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:22)
This passage reminds me of when God created Adam and Eve.
The Spirit of God hovers over the waters, like a dove (Genesis 1:2).
Adam and Eve are created from comes up out of these waters.
And God breathes the Spirit of life, and they become fully alive!
And with pleasure and love, God declares it all – and them – very good (Genesis 1:31).
Our world has become a “very bad” mess, and God does not love what it has become.
But it was that creation love that determined to send a human to restore it (Genesis 3:15).
And through the generations of humankind, God kept working until the day of Jesus.
The generations that included David and Abraham and went back all the way to Adam.
“Jesus was… the son of Adam, the son of God.” (Luke 3:38)
Just as Adam was the son of God, Jesus is now declared God’s child.
That is, he is the kind of human that God loves, with whom God is pleased.
Through Jesus, we receive the right to be called “children of God” (John 1:12)
Can you hear God saying, ‘You are my child, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’
PRAYER
Lord, may your Spirit hover over me, and assure me – despite my sin – that by grace I am God’s much-loved child too.

Baptized with Jesus – I am! God declares Jesus to be His son and then Mark records Jesus earthly family genealogy. That earthly connection is my connection. Jesus is the image of God – and we are created in His image. Jesus gave us the gift of the spirit – we are baptized. Lord Jesus, because you are I am connected to the Father who created me. You have my heart, help me to live out my baptism for you!

Genealogies give us our roots and helps us understand our heritage. Luke traces Jesus’ heritage back to Adam. He was and is for all people for all times, past present and future. He is the Saviour of the world and today I go forward in that power living for Him.

    Alive alive alive forevermore
    My Jesus is alive
    Alive forevermore
    Alive alive alive forevermore
    My Jesus is alive

    Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah
    My Jesus is alive forevermore
    Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah
    My Jesus is alive

think about it!

What does God ask of us? Not that we should be stronger than we are, but that we should confess our weakness and accept His strength.
