PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Kings 21-22
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“When he heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes.” (2 Kings 22:11)
What happens when we hear the message of the bible… or what should happen?
As the Spirit spoke through scripture, Josiah’s heart responded (2 Kings 22:19).
He was convicted, moved to repentance, and he went to the Lord in humility.
The Spirit still speaks through scripture, but is my heart responsive?
The whole point of my daily discipline of reading the bible is to respond to the Spirit.
I am not earning brownie points with God for reading the bible everyday.
I am not seeking to increase my bible knowledge, nor to get sermon material.
Every time I read the bible, the Spirit is speaking… but am I responsive?
“Our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.” (1 Thessalonians 1:4-5)
“For the word of God is alive and active… it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
The point of conviction is not shame, but healing and hope… if I am responsive!
As a Jesus follower, do I have ears to hear what Jesus is saying to me?
PRAYER
Lord, sometimes my bible reading becomes a duty or a chore. When this happens, I am missing out on Your gracious intervention and healing. Help me to be responsive like Josiah!
“Your eyes will not see all the disaster” – Josiah humbled himself when he heard the words read to him from the ‘Bible’ that was long forgotten – not read. The temple was overrun by pagan worship – lead by Josiah’s corrupted ancestors. Josiah knew what was coming – and the prophet Huldah, she confirmed it. Yet, because of Josiah’s heartfelt response – he would not see the destruction in his time. Do I see where godlessness and sin takes us? When Jesus is used as a swear word but not one to believe as the messiah! We must see that disaster is coming for all who do not know Jesus as the Messiah! Yet many don’t see the importance of Jesus – who he is and why he came and is coming again. Help me Lord to communicate the hope we have – even in the face of coming disaster!
B.I.B.L.E. = basic instructions before leaving earth
His Word tells me how to live for Jesus. Each day anew I need to hear His Voice saying, this is the way. Walk in it. I need to hear His Word daily so that I will not do astray. Today is His day as it is every day and I need to walk in His SonShine being led by His Spirit.
Chorus
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Verse 1
When I feel afraid
And I think I’ve lost my way
Still You’re there right beside me
Nothing will I fear
As long as You are near
Please be near me to the end
Verse 2
I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
My heart forever is wandering
Jesus be my guide
And hold me to Your side
I will love You to the end
