How do we treat the Lord’s anointed?

Posted on September 5, 2020September 4, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 1 Samuel 23-24

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“I will not lay my hand on my lord, because he is the Lord’s anointed.” (1 Samuel 24:10)
Saul is dishonouring and disobeying God and doing wrong!
It would be perfectly natural for David to want to hurt or kill Saul.
Everyone around him sees this, and encourages him in this.
But David sees Saul as God’s anointed, chosen by God for God’s purpose.
Jesus is God’s final ‘anointed one’ (Christ), and we should not speak or act against him.
In addition, every follower of Jesus is anointed in him (christian).
So how does this affect how we relate to each other, even ones we think are wrong?
There are some ‘christians’ I feel perfectly justified in speaking against.
But do I still see them as God’s anointed, and therefore deserving respect and honour?
Will I lay my hand (or my words) against the Lord’s anointed ones?
I have been part of church tensions and splits which were not pretty.
In the process, it often seemed the others were not respected or honoured.
Am I mistreating or bad-mouthing so-called liberal or conservative christians?
We do not need to agree or work together, but they are still the Lord’s anointed!
PRAYER
Lord, help me to see all people as God’s image=bearers, and all christians and the Lord’s anointed. Remind me that how I speak and treat others is how I am speaking about and treating you!

    David understood that God had established Saul as king – he was anointed. Saul was the first king but Israel had seen priests be anointed and so that knew its significance. David respected that and though tempted did not seek to grab the kingship from Saul – before God’s timing. Saul had grown impatient and took matters in his own hands – and here David was tempted too – but did not. It was a test. Satan tried that on Jesus as well – we too are tested often – we need to wait and seek God’s timing and blessing – we need the ‘ephod’ and get God’s help. We have it in the HS -Jesus promised gift to us – to help guide us – not to be led by our own will – but to submit to Gods!

    Spirit driven.
    Walking with God always.
    Talking with the Lord.
    Integrity.
    Doing the Father’s will.
    We are all His children and I need to show by my words and deeds /my actions, that I am a child of the King. His will needs to be done in my life.

    O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
    Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
    I shall not fear the battle if Thou art by my side,
    Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my Guide.

    Oh, let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,
    I dare not trust my judgment: Thy way shall be my will;
    Oh, speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
    Oh, speak, and help me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.

think about it!

There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, ‘All right, then, have it your way.’
