Am I forgetting, or not seeing?

Posted on December 8, 2019December 7, 2019 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 10

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Do not forget the helpless.” (Psalm 10:12)
I recently reread Viktor Frankl’s account of life in Nazi concentration camps.
What the guards did to prisoners was pure evil (like the ‘wicked in this Psalm).
All of us have sin in our hearts, but not all of us give it free reign like this.
This psalm expresses the cry, and the hope, of the helpless.
Like Abel’s blood, it cries out to God, in judgment against the wicked (Genesis 4:10).
God will show mercy to the helpless and the humble, through Jesus’ blood (Hebrews 12:24).
Even the wicked can find mercy from God, if they humbly admit their crimes.
But those who reject God’s mercy and give in to this evil are under a curse.
I read this Psalm as an encouragement to the helpless that God will not forget.
I also read it as a challenge for me not to forget the helpless either.
The day of justice is coming, and only the genuinely humble will be lifted up.
Jesus is on the side of the helpless… am I; Jesus hears the cries of victims… do I?
Do I wear blinders so that I don’t see the helpless, do I shift responsibility to others?
Today I want to pay attention to see how many ‘helpless’ I meet along my way.
PRAYER
Lord, its good to know You do not forget the helpless. But this is not an excuse for me to forget. I was once the helpless one, and You remembered me. Help me to see, and not forget!

There are but two roads – one to serve self and one to serve God.
Those seeking their own way take advantage of whatever to accomplish their desires not counting the cost of being self serving.
Yet those who love God, reach out to Him and show His love by sharing, compassion, prayers, caring, doing good in His name. They are letting His Light shine through them. Help me to bring Your love Lord to those who You bring across my paths so that I may be as Christ unto them.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
    And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
    Hallelu, Hallelujah!
    2
    Ask, and it shall be given unto you;
    Seek, and you shall find.
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
    Hallelu, Hallelujah!
    3
Man shall not live by bread alone,
    But by every word
That proceeds out from the mouth of God.
    Hallelu, Hallelujah

The Psalmist appeals to God – to “call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out”. The Psalmist knows that God knows and that God will come to bring justice – yet the victims suffer yet God sees their “grief and take(s) it in the hand”. Really, the arrogant who thinks that they can get away with it are shooting-themselves-in-the-foot – though it may look like they enjoy a luxurious life. Forgive me for striving to set up my own utopia – comfort – and forget those who suffer! HS prompt me when I too act arrogantly!

You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, (V 17).
News on TV, internet, newspapers report violence due to guns and drug abuse. Children become fatherless and girls are raped and many are tortured.
But praise to You o Lord we can call to you to defend the fatherless and the the opprossed, in order that man, who is of the earth may terrify mo more.
I am your servant o Lord grant me wisdom and strength on what little I can do to bring ripples and multiply it … in order that man, who is of the earth may terrify no more.

think about it!

He who runs from God in the morning, will scarcely find Him the rest of the day.
