Different tribes, one family!

Posted on September 22, 2019September 24, 2019 by Norm

THE STORY OF JESUS: Psalm 133
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
In what follows Genesis 3, we see the breakdown of God’s family.
From the division of Adam, Eve and their children to the division of Babel.
Family breakdown, separating into like-minded tribes that attack others.
God sent Jesus to break down walls of division, and reunite His family.
When the high priest was anointed, the oil settled down onto his robes.
And on to his breastplate, which held the 12 stones for each tribe.
The oil represents the Spirit, spreading God’s blessing over all people.
“For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.” (Psalm 133:3)
Unity in God’s family is not a unity of sameness, but unity among differences.
It is not big deal when a like-minded church gets along, this is not spiritual.
It is spiritual, a sign of God’s blessing, when people who disagree are united.
Jesus followers are to be peace-makers, and this assumes lack of peace.
To love those whose culture or practice or views differ from ours.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, help me to seek and celebrate unity and love with those who are different from me. This is the real unity that You love to bless!

Amen, brother. I think when there’s disunity we get distracted from kingdom work!

Living together in unity. When that happens, truly God is there. That is living at peace with all mankind. It reminds me of the Canada Food Grains Bank where 15 Canadian churches and church based agencies are working together. There too, we celebrate not our differences, but our oneness in Christ Jesus, who continues to lead and guide us along the way. He continues to bless us and we need to be a blessing to others.
    Different yet the same.
    Serving His people.
    Sharing His goodness.

    Bind us together Lord
    Bind us together with cords
    That cannot be broken
    Bind us together Lord
    Bind us together
    Bind us together with love

    There is only one God
    There is only one King
    There is only one body
That is why we can sing (Chorus)

You are the fam’ly of God
    You are the promise divine
    You are God’s chosen desire
you are the glorious new wine (Chorus)

think about it!

Prayer is an upward leap of the heart, an untroubled glance toward heaven, a cry of gratitude and love which I utter from the depths of sorrow as well as from the heights of joy. It has a supernatural grandeur which expands the soul and unites it with God.
