THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 1:16-20
“‘Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.’” (Mark 1:17)
It seems to me that people matter more than things.
My family needs things (food, clothing, place to sleep, education, etc.).
These things matter, but they are not the most important.
They do not live by food (fish or bread) alone, but by love and blessing.
Jesus is not minimizing their calling to fish, but calling them to something more.
Catching fish for food, for themselves and their community, is not enough.
Jesus comes to bring what all humans need more than anything – God and His love.
Without God, everything else is meaningless; we are lost and hopeless without God.
Jesus comes to reconnect us to God, and to full life, not just biological life.
As a Jesus follower, I need to do more than make money for my daily needs.
With Jesus I am to pursue God’s kingdom agenda as I do my daily work.
Focus on the people, focus on kindness, generosity, mercy, blessing others.
My workplace is the perfect place to do this – as a worker FOR PEOPLE.
Jesus sends me into my life, and you into yours – to bless and serve people!

PRAYER
Lord, may the people that meet me today be blessed and encouraged. May they see and experience God’s grace, mercy and peace through me.
