SCRIPTURE: Acts 8:5-8
“So there was great joy in that city.” (Acts 5:8)
Philip’s presence in this city results in great joy.
Makes me wonder about the city where we live, and what response we produce?
Is there great joy in our city because of the presence of Jesus’ followers?
When they hear what we say, and see what we do, are people engaged or repulsed?
The ‘signs’ are not just miracles, healings and cast out demons, there were ‘greater signs’.
Love, mercy, humility, compassion, generosity, forgiveness, hope – these are what produce great joy.
This is what we need to consider as Jesus-followers – does our presence inspire joy?
I can think of many different ways that Christians I know are bringing joy.
The community is a better place because of their presence.
This is why Jesus has called us, to bring kingdom joy wherever we go.
Is there ‘greater joy’ because of Jesus shining through me?

Lord, may the ‘good news of great joy’ shine through me and our church, so that there is great joy in our city too!
