Praise THIS Lord!

Posted on June 7, 2015June 6, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 135
“Our Lord is greater than all gods.” (Psalm 135:5)
There is only one God, but there are many pictures of God.
These pictures (‘gods’) are projections from our minds, ways that we see God.
God warns people against making pictures (idols), because they always fall short.
All of us are guilty of shaping our ideas about God with our minds.
When this psalm speaks about the Lord, it refers to the God that cannot be pictured.
God as God actually is, the ultimate reality about God – powerful, good, just, merciful.
A God that is concerned for the underdog, and opposed to the proud and cruel.
This God is worth praising, worth celebrating, worth thinking about.
But if all our ideas about God are pictures, how can we know if our ideas are right?
The best way is to look at the picture God Himself made: Jesus Christ.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God.” (Colossians 1:15)
Jesus re-presents God in the flesh, the living embodiment of justice and mercy and goodness.
He is greater than all other ‘gods’ and ‘lords’, He is worth praising!
He is why I am a Jesus-follower, I want to become like Him!
“Those who follow Him will be like Him, and so will all who trust in Him.” (Psalm 135:18)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are the reason I have hope, that I believe, that I love God. You are the best picture of God there is, and I long to be like You!

    Observations/Application
    Today’s reading is a very fitting Psalm for His people since it is ‘Sonday’ a day when His people do willingly praise Him. But it needs to be more than today. Praise needs to come from our hearts, heads and hands every day for what He has done for us – His grace. We the people, I, need to be thankful for all what the Lord God has done for me and praise Him always. Open my eyes Lord and let me see You at work in this Your creation by the rains, the storms, the new plant growth, the birds of the air, etc. My world belongs to God and I must see Him in all things. Not just in days past, but also today. God is God and there is none other.
    Praise Him at all times.
    Praise Him throughout the day.
    Sing His praises also today.
    Praise Him.

    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Praise Him, praise Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Love Him, love Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love;
    Thank Him, thank Him, all ye little children,
    God is love, God is love.

think about it!

Surely there is something in the unruffled calm of nature that overawes our little anxieties and doubts; the sight of the deep-blue sky and the clustering stars above seems to impart a quiet to the mind.
