A still, quiet soul

Posted on May 10, 2015May 11, 2015 by Norm

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 131
“I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.” (Psalm 131:1)
Life and reality are more complicated than we care to admit.
We like to reduce everything – including God – to a formula that we can understand.
We are critical when God and things about God don’t make sense to us.
As if our puny minds can fathom the mysteries of the Universe, let alone God.
We have lost our sense of mystery, of wonder, of humility.
I believe that one day when we finally stand before God, we will say what Job said.
“Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.” (Job 42:3)
This is not a bad thing, actually it is the wonderful security of a child in it’s mother’s arms.
The child does not know, let alone understand, what is going on in the world around it.
But one thing it knows, it is safe within the loving arms of it’s loving mother.
When life gets overwhelming, quiet your soul in His arms… He has things under control!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, remind me of this beautiful psalm whenever I get stressed over overwhelmed. Help me to imagine myself as a young child lying safe in Your arms.

    Observation/Application
    Contentment.
    To be content.
As a small child depends on his mother for nourishment and protection so I must depend upon God for all things. He is my Provider. He is my Protector. I must keep my eyes on Him and not of the things of this world. As a small child I am at peace in Him. Life is only a reality when I put all my hope and trust in the Lord. I must keep my eyes on Jesus always for it is He Who calms my soul/heart/mind. God gives His people peace.

    1. God gives His people strength.
If we believe in His way, He’s swift to repay
All those who bear the burden of the day
    God gives His people strength.

    2. God gives His people hope
If we but trust in His word, our prayers are always heard
He warmly welcomes anyone who’s erred.
    God gives His people hope.

    3. God gives His people love
If we but open wide our hearts, He’s sure to do His part
He’s always the first to make a start.
    God gives His people love.

    4. God gives His people peace.
When sorrow fills us to the brim, and courage grows dim
He lays to rest our restlessness in Him.
    God gives His people peace.

think about it!

I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.
