SCRIPTURE: Zechariah 7-14
“Thirty pieces of silver… the handsome price at which they valued me!” (Zechariah 11:13)
Zechariah prophecied to the small nation of Judah, around 520 BC.
But the general message is for all of God’s people, and all the world.
And it also includes a number of pointers to the coming Messiah.
The good shepherd coming from Israel, riding on a donkey, sold out for 30 pieces of silver…
The concerns are the same: hollow worship, lack of concern for justice and mercy.
And little respect and value given for God (only 30 pieces of silver?)
But like Judas, they are disappointed (Matthew 27:3-10).
After all this, Zechariah makes it clear that God still loves them, will not give up on them!
In Jesus we see how much God values us, the price He is willing to pay to help us!
If you were to put a price on Jesus’ love for you, what would it be?
If you were to put a price on your love for Jesus, what would it be?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, life has no value without You. Not only are You priceless, life with You becomes priceless. Help me not to exchange priceless joy with a counterfeit happiness.
Observation/Application
‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’ But when the times are good, do we the people listen to the Word? At all times I need to praise the living God and heed His Word with and open heart and mind to do His will. We/I need to be a blessing yo those around us as the Lord has blessed us. As the Word of the Lord came to the prophet, so too the Word comes to us. Seek Him and live! Our Lord reigns! He is our Shield and Protector. He is my Saviour. My All in all! He is the ‘Glue’ that holds everything together. My Shepherd and Guide. Lead me and Guide me throughout this day and always. He is the One Who strengthens and empowers His people. God gives His people strength. As He went before His people with the cloud and pillar of fire, so too He goes before me this day. Wow!
Today is the Lord’s Day and I need to live and proclaim that the Lord is my God and I go forward in His power lead by His Spirit. He reigns.
