SCRIPTURE: Luke 11:27-28
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28)
Many were impressed by Jesus, hopeful that He was God’s Messiah.
One imagines how blessed His mother must be.
Yes, she was blessed, but recall Simeon’s words about what this meant:
“Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (Luke 2:34-35)
We all need our hearts revealed, we all need our souls pierced… to be blessed.
Just being Jesus’ mother did not make her blessed; she needed to repent and believe and obey too!
God’s blessing – the shalom life we were made for – is only found in getting straight with God.
When we hear God’s message about life as it ought to be – the kingdom of God – we either enter it through repentance and faith or we miss out on it through stubborn pride and self-love.
All of us need our souls pierced by grace in order to be blessed by it!
The way to God’s blessing is the same for all of us – including so-called Saints – repent, believe and obey.
The Spirit is pressing on our hearts right now, will we let Him pierce us, that we might be blessed?

PRAYER
Lord, thank You for not giving up on me, but piercing my soul so that I might be blessed. It’s not easy, it’s not pleasant, but it is good… really good!
