SCRIPTURE: Exodus 9 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones. [Matthew 24:21-22] Livestock dying,…

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 8 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. [John 20:30-31]. The king of Egypt…

refusing to believe

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 7 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: ‘Lord, who has believed our message? To whom has the Lord revealed his powerful arm?” [John 12:37-38] People do not see God because they do…

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 6 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: ‘Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad.’ The people said, ‘You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham? Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I Am!’ [John 8:56-58] In Exodus 6:2-3, God…

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 5 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved. [Matthew 10:22] Poor Moses, he spoke to Pharoah just as YHWH commanded, and things only got worse. From his own perspective, his mission failed, he was a failure. Maybe he assumed that…

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 4 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what…

the weight and wonder of God

Posted on December 19, 2008April 1, 2017 by Norm

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “God”? OK, now what do you feel when you hear the word “God”? Do your thoughts and your feelings correspond? I can think some pretty big thoughts about God: omnipresent, omniscience, omnipotence, incomprehensible, immutable, eternal, infinite. But do I feel the weight of these thoughts,…

all that He is, all that I need

SCRIPTURE: Exodus 3 OBSERVATION/APPLICATION: God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.” [Exodus 3:14] Moses was a Hebrew raised in Pharoah’s courts. How much does He know of His ancestry? Does He know Who God is? If Moses was confident in His…

go light your world
