Reflecting on Luke 24:36-43
“Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:39)
We cannot touch Jesus, but the first disciples could.
And through Jesus, they were experiencing the image of the invisible God.
It is interesting to me that God showed up in the Garden as a human.
“The man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8)
How could God make sound or enjoy coolness walking in the garden?
Yet Adam and Eve were expecting someone with flesh and bones, not a ghost.
God takes on human form in order to relate with His human image-bearers.
And God takes on human form to rescue and redeem His human image-bearers.
What a thought to consider; we will one day see God face to face.
We will be able to sit with, eat with, and converse with God in human form.
We will be able to touch Him and see Him, and know He is not a ghost.
God as God will remain invisible and unapproachable, above and beyond us.
But God as God revealed, incarnate, touchable and visible, will enjoy the garden with us!
And will be well – very good again – when we sit and eat with Jesus again.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You give me hope that one day I will know and experience God without sinful barriers or limits. I will be able to know God in the way God intended, as someone to enjoy this 'very good' creation with!
