Reflecting on Luke 24:13-27
“He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27)
Jesus is alive, and is still teaching His disciples.
He walks them through the Jewish Bible to show them how it points to Him.
I believe we still need Jesus to explain this to us.
This is why I spend most of my time reading the Jesus stories.
I want to be immersed in what He said and did so I can see Him in the Bible.
All of the writings (scriptures) are God-breathed.
But the Jesus Stories (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) are the point.
Everything else is a witness to Jesus, to Who He was and what He did.
Everything else is shadowy and partial (1 Corinthians 13:9-12, Colossians 2:17).
The Jesus Stories show us what God is like, and help us to discern the rest.
The bible is not a flat book, with all parts being equal.
Jesus is the point, the meaning, the heart and center of it all.
The better we know Jesus, the better we will discern the rest.
When something in the bible doesn’t match Jesus, I defer to Jesus.
For Jesus, not the Bible, is the ultimate Word of God, the way, the truth and the light!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I do not always see You clearly in the rest of the bible. Sometimes I get glimpses and hints, and sometimes it seems dark and fuzzy. In those moments, impress Your way, truth and life on my heart and mind, so that I can better understand the destination, even if I am unclear on how we got there!

I am like the men on the road to Emmaus. Where do I see see Jesus, even today? He has shown the way but how am I practicing the way this day? Help me Lord this day to walk by Your Spirit doing Your will, being like Jesus unto others.
