The greatest leader of all!

Posted on April 11, 2026April 11, 2026 by Norm
Reflecting on Luke 20:41-44

“David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” (Luke 20:44)

Jesus is still speaking to the religious leaders gathered around Him.
Here Jesus challenges their limited thinking about the Messiah.
Using this quote from David, He shows how the Messiah is greater than David.
The original verse says: YHWH (LORD) says to my Adonai (master, owner, lord).
David recognizes that the promised one will be greater and more than him.

The people were thinking that God’s kingdom would be another great kingdom.
They expected a kingdom like Israel under David, or like Babylon, or like Rome – rich and powerful.
Jesus is not just another great leader; His kingdom is not another worldly kingdom.
There’s something better, something superior about Jesus and His kingdom.
It is clear from His approach to leadership that He is not like worldly leaders.

The greatest human leaders ever will be humbled before God’s humble Messiah.
“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10–11).
We honour Him not by fighting for Him, but by joining Him on His knees, ruling like Him!
If the Master Himself kneels and serves, should not His followers?

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You are the greatest, but not in the human way of greatness. It is not just those who say 'Lord, Lord' that honour You, but those who do what You did, lead like You led, serve like You served. May our knees bow like You, not just to You.

Just a few days ago we remembered Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem and the people shouted their hosanahs because they thought that He would be their Saviour from the Romans. He did come as a Saviour to save us from our sins and bring us to His heavenly Kingdom. Until that time I need to be like Jesus unto others, called to serve Him. How do I carry Christ every day? Do others see Christ Jesus in me?

think about it!

Some people die at 25 and aren’t buried until 75.
