A pleasing aroma?

Posted on July 1, 2023June 30, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Exodus 29-30

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer.” (Exodus 30:25)
Whenever the people came near the temple, they would smell this unique fragrance.
Everything was to be anointed with this sacred oil, giving it all the same smell.
Even if you were blind, you would know where you were if you sensed this smell.
Or if a priest walked up behind you, you would know they were there.
This was one of many symbols that impressed on the people God’s glory and goodness.
The people could sense in everyway possible God’s loving presence and power.
As Jesus followers, we are “to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.”
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” (2 Corinthians 2:14-15)

People can sense the goodness and glory of God in Jesus by how we live and love.
People will sense that they are with Jesus’s disciples by our love (John 13:35).
They will feel Jesus if they interact with us, and sense that God is near.
We are God’s anointed, anointed by the Spirit with the pleasing fruit of love, joy, peace.
What kind of aroma do I bring when I am with others – or do I raise a stink?
PRAYER
Lord, when I interact with strangers, may they sense your pleasing ‘aroma’, the goodness of love, joy and peace.

God is Holy: Moses was instructed to consecrate anything and anyone that had to do with the service of the tabernacle, God said then “…I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God.” Moses was also instructed to receive a half shekel from each person – as a ransom – so that they would be counted among God’s people. Moses had to have special oil and incense prepared that was unique to the service of the tabernacle. It was all to make God’s people to see that their God is Holy. Jesus now stands in the gap and makes me presentable to God -I’m washed, cleansed, I smell good and I’m given a special garment – b/c Jesus makes me clean – and now I may join that great banquet – when Jesus calls me home or Jesus comes again.

think about it!

A good example has twice the value of good advice.
