The sound of his voice!

Posted on April 16, 2023April 15, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 29

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders!” (Psalm 29:3)
What might God’s Voice sound like, if we could actually hear it?
When God spoke to Jesus, some thought that it was thunder (John 12:29).
David doesn’t know what God’s Voice sounds like, but he imagines it is powerful.
More powerful than the forces of nature, like thunder, lightning, or a hurricane.
His point isn’t that God is scary, but greater than the greatest powers we know.
In the raging storm, Jesus did not have to yell to be heard and obeyed.
“He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’” (Mark 4:39)
Jesus is the Voice (or Word) of God made flesh, living among us, speaking with us.
As he speaks, God speaks, and amazing things happen.
Jesus appears like an ordinary human, weak and limited like the rest of us.
But the Voice of God, the same Voice that created everything, speaks through him.
His words are the words of LIFE (John 6:68); when he speaks, things happen.
Whether I am in a storm, or in a time of peace, Jesus is Lord over it all!
“The Lord sits enthroned over the flood… he blesses his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)
PRAYER
Lord, so many voices clamor in my head for attention, trying to frighten and destabilize me. I choose to listen to your Voice. Rebuke the noise in my head and grace me with your words, ‘Quiet! Be still!’

The voice of the Lord created all things into being – and the voice of the Lord declared it was good and He declared that it was finished: that the Son of God had redeemed us and creation – the restoration has begun to take shape. Help me to give voice/action to it and work with my God to re-create and restore – that I may be a blessing! Thank you Lord for opportunities to share and to do!

The voice of the Lord is powerful. Just think of the creation days. God spoke and it was and it was good. He still speaks to His people but His people need to hear that voice. And we need open eyes to see how powerful and majestic that voice was and still is. That voice needs to be my guide always.

In The Stars His Handiwork I See
On The Winds He Speaks Of Majesty
Though He Ruleth Over Land And Sea
    What Is That To Me
    I Will Celebrate Nativity
For It Has Its Place In History
Sure He Came To Set His People Free
    What Is That To Me

Till One Day I Met Him Face To Face
And I Sought The Wonder Of His Grace
Then I Knew That He Was More Than
Just A God Who Didn’t Care
That Lived Away Up There, And
Now He Walks Beside Me Day By Day
Ever Watching Over Me Lest I Stray
Helping Me To Find That Narrow Way
    He’s Everything To Me
