Do you hear what David hears?

Posted on February 5, 2023February 4, 2023 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 19

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The heavens declare the glory of God.” (Psalm 19:1)
Imagine David in the fields with his sheep, seeing the endless skies surrounding him.
He sees the sun run its course from its rising to its seeting (vv.4-6)
He recalls his Torah lessons, how God reveals is power and love through creation.
David is experiencing God in creation, and says that everyone can do the same.
Everyone can experience God, if they take the time to pay attention.
“Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” (19:4)
Do I spend time “listening” to what God is saying to me in the world around me?
Am I rushing so fast I don’t have time to smell the roses, or to rejoice in their Maker?
Do I find God’s message in the Bible more precious gold, or sweeter than honey?
Like David, I realize how wonderfully patient and forgiving God is to me.
Like David, I need protection from my hidden and willful sins.
I hear the Lord gently inviting me to pay more attention to him, so I can follow him.
To sense him around me, to hear him speaking to me, to delight in his gracious presence.
How will I take time today to see and hear the Lord’s glory today?
PRAYER
Lord, you are always speaking, but I am not always listening. Please help me to listen for your voice everywhere and all the time! Amen.

Look out – look deep – consider and see the creator’s majesty. Each day creation speaks of God’s glory. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with it – thank you David for expressing and declaring God’s majesty. Now I too, hope and pray that: “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” My turn! Yes like David to observe, listen and see the glory of the creator – Lord shape my meditations on you each day I pray!

‘Where did I see God today?’ is a question I ask myself many a time. Where did I see His handiwork? I spend time in the morning with reading His word and the same in the evening. But between those times, did I see or feel His presence? May His Word and Spirit continue to guide me always and may I have open ears and open eyes to see Him at all times walking in His Sonshine. I am always in His presence and I need to ‘talk’ with Him throughout the day.

When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
    he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

think about it!

Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.
