Digging yourself deeper!

Posted on November 13, 2022November 12, 2022 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 7

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Whoever digs a hole falls into the pit they have made.” (Psalm 7:15)
The idea here is that this person is digging a hole for others.
What they don’t realize is that they are digging themselves deeper.
Doing good has a tendency toward lifting up others and yourself.
Doing bad has the opposite tendency, it only brings you and others down.
By ‘doing bad’ is meant the opposite of goodness, kindness, helpfulness.
We hurt ourselves when we hurt others, and we increase other’s hate for us as well.
Our world is filled with holes of hate and hurt, and we keep falling into them.
Unless we break the cycle, and start filling them with goodness, we will sink.
Jesus breaks the cycle of sin by infusing goodness into the world.
Jesus brings love where hate flourishes, forgiveness where bitterness multiplies.
Jesus is thrown in the pit, but fills it with goodness to help us out.
He gives us his Spirit, so we can join him in filling the world with goodness.
The solution to David’s trouble is not more hate or hurt, but grace.
This is the righteousness of the Lord (v.17) that helps us out (of our holes).
PRAYER
Lord, digging holes for my enemy will not help. Fill the holes with your goodness, and help me to do the same. Lift us all from the pits we dig for others and ourselves.

My hope is in the righteous judgement of God: “Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure—you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts.” God knows me – even as I am deserving of death He saves me through Jesus who is my living Saviour! He will protect and vindicate me from the ones who have done evil against me! I need not seek revenge – rather let me have the heart to pray for my enemy and those who torment me! Grant to me a forgiving and gracious spirit That I may love my fellow man as you do, O Lord!

‘The trouble they cause recoils on them.’
The bad fruit people produce causes sorrow and pain not only for others but also themselves. Those who serve the Lord need to produce good fruit which can only be accomplished in the power of His name. We need to let our fruit overflow in His name, giving Him our praises every day as we live for Jesus and not for ourselves.

Living for Jesus a life that is true,
    Striving to please Him in all that I do;
    Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
