PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 3
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.” (Psalm 3:5)
At the end of the day I have no problem falling asleep – I’m out in an instant.
But I often wake up through the night, and struggle to get back to sleep.
Someone once said that maybe there was something God wanted me to pray about.
I’ve tried it, but my mind is not always in a good frame for praying.
That said, I do sense that waking or sleeping, the Lord is sustaining me.
Whether I feel it or not, whether I can pray or not, the Lord is sustaining me.
David is in crisis – a painful family crisis – I’m surprised he can sleep at all.
My times of crisis are when I wake up, my mind on a loop thinking about it all.
I see David’s words about lying down, sleeping and waking up a good reminder.
Whatever stage I am in, in times of joy and in times of crisis, the Lord is my shield.
It doesn’t take away the problems, but it does comfort me with his presence.
I find myself waking up these days thinking through the current challenges.
Voices in my head try to scare me that it won’t go well, but I refuse to listen to them.
I choose to repeat with David: waking or sleeping, the Lord sustains me!
PRAYER
Lord, when the many voices in my head are taunting me, ‘the Lord will not deliver you’, may your Spirit’s voice keep echoing David’s hopeful words, ‘the Lord sustains you!’
When I am asleep I’m vulnerable – even more so with my hearing disability. But I do not live in fear. I’ve been in near danger a number of times in my life – yet God has kept me safe thus far: “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me” Sometimes it been real close and I wonder that could have been me in that fateful crash. I know my life is sustained by my God. Even when challenged by illness and heart surgery – God has sustained me. Each day is another day that the Lord gives me – I wake again – by the grace of God! Help Lord to be fruitful as I live to serve you more and more!
Good morning Lord.
A new day to go forward in Your name.
At all times I will serve the living God. He is with me.
I put my small hand into His large hand. That’s comfort. That’s trust. That’s security.
I greet the Lord when I wake up in the morning and I end the day with Him when I go to sleep and inbetween time I talk with my God, my Protector, my Guide, my Enabler.
He leads me and guides me at all times.
I am lost, if you take your hand from me;
I am blind, without Thy Light to see;
Lord, just always let me Thy servant be,
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.
