For Jesus’s sake!

Posted on May 22, 2022May 21, 2022 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 132

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.” (Psalm 132:10)
As these believers look to the temple for hope, they remember God’s grace to David.
David was a humble, sincere God-worshipper, a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22).
He was a hero to Abraham’s family because he was so devoted to God and his purpose.
In a sense, he was the closest thing they had to a ‘saviour’ they could trust.
But David was not sinless; he was human like the rest of us (see psalm 51).
Putting our hope in human saviours will ultimately let us down.
We do not pray ‘for David’s sake’ because David cannot help us.
He is subject to death like us, unable to help us from the curse (Acts 2:25-35).
God knows the struggle of these ancient believers, and our struggle too.
God knows we need help, and has appeared as the ‘Son of David’ and ‘anointed one’.
Jesus – not Paul, David or Moses, not Calvin, Luther or Augustine – is our hope.
He is the horn (of salkvation) that grows for David, and for us (132:17)
His head is adorned with a radiant crown, and ours is crowned with him (132:18)!
For the sake of Jesus, our anointed one (Christ), we can pray with hope.
PRAYER
Lord, you have proven that God will not abandon us to the curse. Strengthen me with faith, hope and love as I go through the struggles of this life… for Jesus’s sake!

    Oh to be among the chosen: “I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.” Though at times a number of God’s people don’t have it that way on this side of heaven – but from what I’ve experienced is that God does take care of His chosen people – even if they had to suffer for a time – but I know like Job – there will be an end and the future looks bright – especially when we are transformed from this place. Lord help me to serve joyfully and without fear! May the joy I share be infectious!

    Promise keepers.
    David wanted to build a dwelling place for the Lord. We too should desire to do great things for the Lord. God needs to be first in our lives. Obey His will and way is the only hope for this world. David turned to Christ and we need to do the same this day and always. David worked on his promise to God and God promised to be with His people to dwell among them. All of God’s promises are filled in Jesus. This gives me what I need to live for Jesus for Your promises to be with us.

    O Jesus, I have promised
    To serve thee to the end;
    Be thou forever near me,
    My Master and my friend;
    I shall not fear the battle
    If thou art by my side,
    Nor wander from the pathway
    If thou wilt be my guide.
