PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 124
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“If the Lord had not been on our side — let Israel say…” (Psalm 124:1)
As a Jesus follower, I look for ways that the Lord is at work in my life.
The fingerprints of God, signs that God and Jesus are nearby.
The psalmist realizes that his ongoing survival and success are due to God.
He says it out loud, and urges others to do the same, to stay strong!
I can say that I would not make it through life without Jesus’s help.
In my own struggles, when I felt like I was being swallowed alive, he held on!
With David I say it loud: God is for us, nothing can separate us from God’s love.
This doesn’t mean I won’t struggle, suffer, get sick or die.
But none of these things will swallow me, sweep me away, separate me from God.
Jesus Himself experienced this on the cross, and he rose up in the end.
I know of many Jesus followers who have endured their own cross with hope.
They struggled, they doubted, sometimes they even gave up… but God did not.
This is my hope, that God will hang on to me even when I can’t hang on.
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8)
PRAYER
Lord, I pray especially for those enduring way more hardship than me. Hold them close, and help them to hold on. Help us to sense it, and to say it loud!
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” There is no other. We may take refuge in our strength, our security in assets or in technology to keep us safe. Yet a miniscule virus can kill us – I mistake at the wheel can end it all – a downturn in the economy can make us loose a job or make our securities worthless. So important to know that it is the Lord that keeps us safe and helps us! Lord help me not to put too much confidence in any thing or anyone other than you!
During the days of the Judges, Israel had peace because the people served the Lord God. Yet after the judge died, the people once again did what was right in their own eyes. Like the escaped bird, the Lord needs to be the wind beneath my wings. And I daily need to recognize that He is my Helper. At all times I need to serve the living God. At all time I need to see and recognize His presence in my life. That is my hope and comfort.
