Keep looking up!

Posted on February 27, 2022February 26, 2022 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 120

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Woe to me that I live among the tents of Kedar!” (Psalm 120:5)
A ‘song of ascents’ was sung by pilgrims on the upward roads to Jerusalem.
As they ascended, they lifted their hearts and voices to the Lord.
In this song they lament that where they live people do not honour God.
Going to temple they ask God to help them be strong and stand firm.
“I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.” (Psalm 120:7)
Can you relate, you want to be a good influence at work or school…
But it’s hard to follow Jesus when everyone else isn’t.
Jesus does not take us out of the world, but he does help us live in it.
We don’t go up to the temple to pray; we are the temple, we can pray everywhere!
We can gather with believers in multiple ways to pray and encourage one another.
When life is an uphill slog, keep looking up, keep your eyes on Jesus!
Find others who share your heart, and look up together, and be encouraged.
“Spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.” (Hebrews 10:24)
Make this your daily prayer, your daily song, on your upward journey to glory!
PRAYER
Lord, help me to keep looking up when those around me keep dragging me down. Help me to lift them up too!

“Save me, Lord, from lying lips and from deceitful tongues.” I can I discern? Not on my own – I’m compromised – I live in “Meshak…among the ‘tents of Kedar”. Like the fields of wheat over sown with weeds – I live among the weeds and I bear witness to Jesus – his love and salvation for anyone who believes. Help me to live and discern so that I may witness of your grace and love – keep me from becoming compromised, O Lord – by your spirit!

I am in the world but not of the world. That is why it is so vital to call upon the Lord. He is my Helper. Emmanuel. He is with us. That is why I need to talk to my Lord. Prayerfully each day I go forward in His presence listening to His voice rather than those who speaking evil. I need to be a peace maker at all times and not be entrapped by those around me. I need to let His Light shine through me which is only possible when God is with me.

    Light of the world
    You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You

    Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You’re my God
    You’re altogether lovely
    Altogether worthy
    Altogether wonderful to me
    King of all days
    Oh so highly exalted
    Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created
All for love’s sake became poor

think about it!

God makes three requests of his children: Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have, now.
