It is I, don’t be afraid

Posted on November 10, 2021November 9, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: John 6:16-24

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“It is I; don’t be afraid.” (John 6:20)
If you saw someone walking towards you on water, would you be afraid?
If I knew that the stranger at the door was Jesus, would I be afraid?
If I knew it was Jesus, I would not be afraid, because I know Jesus.
Jesus is not my enemy, and he is not out to hurt me.
When we know Jesus, and that he is with us, our fears can subside.
For me the presence of Jesus is a comfort and encouragement.
Jesus is not a “tame lion” but he is good, and he has proven it to me.
Jesus has walked with me through other uncertain and stormy times.
In those times I was worried or afraid, but I was also not alone.
Those worries and fears have passed, but Jesus is still with me.
He remains steady and constant, while my situations rise and fall like waves.
Please don’t get me wrong; knowing that Jesus is near doesn’t stop worry or fear.
But knowing that Jesus is with me helps me put worry and fear in perspective.
Whatever I am going through, I can hear him: “It is I; don’t be afraid.” (John 6:20)
PRAYER
Lord, my experience of life is up and down, but you remain present, walking above it all. Help me to hear your calming voice, and see you walking with me through it all.

    The disciples obeyed and they rowed for Capernaum like Jesus said. Did they wonder whether Jesus would join them or even how? So did the people wonder – they thought he was still there because they saw his disciples leave without him and there was only 1 boat. Once they realized they also sailed for Capernaum to search for him there. Jesus seemed to be elusive – and he gave his disciples quite a scare. What about myself and Jesus? Do I search for him – do I find him elusive – does he scare me? Lord may I continue to be a seeker, may I always find you – your spirit comforting me and may I not be afraid of what lies ahead! That is my prayer.

    In the darkness and during troubled water. bad times, I too react as the disciples. But the Bible reminds me once again that I need not be afraid for Jesus is here with me – Emmanuel. He keeps watch over me and that is my comfort and strength. He is my Rock.

    Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
    But his smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while we trust and obey.

    Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil he doth richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross,
    But is blest if we trust and obey.

think about it!

There is not one blade of grass, there is no color in this world that is not intended to make us rejoice.
