Whose invitation am I heeding?

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Proverbs 9-10

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Let all who are simple come to my house!” (Proverbs 9:4,16)
In this chapter both wisdom and folly are described as beckoning us.
At any given moment, in all our circumstances, both are calling out to us.
How aware am I of the tests and temptations I face each day.
Sadly many of us give in to folly, without a second thought.
The word for ‘simple’ is ‘one-minded’, thinking only one way.
They do not pause to rethink what they are doing, or tempted to do.
Wisdom urges us to give a second thought, to think further about our actions.
Where does this action lead, is it wise, or good, or beneficial?
Jesus describes two paths, one that leads to life, the other to death (Matthew 7:13).
Jesus describes two houses, one built on rock, the other on sand (Matthew 7:24).
His urgent appeal is to repent, literally to rethink and rechoose our ways!
Which thought pattern or behaviour do you need to rethink, and choose better?
Today I will hear both voices: the voice of the deceiver and the voice of Spirit.
Am I paying attention… who am I listening to, whose house am I moving towards?
PRAYER
Lord, everyday you are calling me to think and choose better, wisely. Help me to pay attention in the little and big decisions I make and actions I take. I want to live with you in your house!

  1. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” This was the foundation stone the Christian elementary school that I went to from Gr. 3-8. I’ve not forgotten it It’s truth has given my ‘wisdom’ guided my paths in so many places. Sometimes these proverbs seem to say that all will be well and good if you follow them – but there are times when you suffer for doing the right thing – there are mockers and fools – there are people with evil intent – yet in the long run – the proverbs are right: “The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.” I know I have a righteousness that is not my own but I have Jesus the blameless one who is my refuge!

  2. Heeding instruction.
Which voice am I listening to?
I need to be righteous, a person of integrity, walking in the Way of the Lord. He needs to be my stronghold, my Fortress, my Rock, my sure foundation. May my words and deeds each day reflect that I am walking in His Way, continuing my journey of joy.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower,
The righteous run into it and they are safe.
    V2
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
    The most high.
    V3
Jesus is the name of the Lord,
Jesus is the name of the Lord,
Jesus is the name of the Lord,
    The most high.
