Trusting God with our questions

Posted on August 3, 2021August 2, 2021 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 20:1-8

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.” (Luke 20:8)
Why doesn’t Jesus answer their question, why is he evasive?
His response reveals something about God for us as well.
Jesus senses that they are not seeking wisdom or genuine understanding.
They are on the attack, and want to trap him in his words.
Jesus turns their game against them, and traps them in their own words.
He does not answer them, because they do not truly want his answer.
I wonder whether we experience the same with God?
How often are our requests or concerns complaints or attacks in disguise?
Are we really seeking wisdom, or are we only concerned about our own selves?
As Jesus followers we look to him for wisdom and understanding.
But even if he does not answer our questions, we still hang on.
We’re not looking to justify or serve ourselves, nor interrogating or attacking Jesus.
We come to Jesus with sincere, desperate faith and hope and love — we trust him.
Do I trust him with my questions, even if he doesn’t answer them?
PRAYER
Lord, I have many questions. I will trust you to answer if, when and how you want to. Remind me that I am not your interrogator, but you are mine!

Lord help me remember that only your authority is true. Protect me from those that use false authority to sow doubt and division, and give me wisdom so that I may see clearly who is laying a trap and who is genuine.

Jesus knew that the questioners were not going to believe his answer – he challenged them with his question regarding John. If they didn’t see John as the one predicted by the prophets that they read – why would they believe Jesus to be the Messiah. They had to answer and trust that John was the one who was to come first – the Elijah. If they didn’t believe the truth about John- why would they accept him. John was sent by God as was Jesus.

    Thy Word.
Where do I place my trust? The religious leaders placed it in themselves and not in Christ. The answer to my questions is Jesus and He continues to lead and guide me for He is my Pilot as I live for Him.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path

    When I feel afraid,
And think I’ve lost my way
Still, you’re there right beside me
    Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path

    I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
    My heart forever is wandering
    Jesus by my guide
And hold me to your side
And I will love you to the end

    Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path
And a light unto my path
You’re the light unto my path

think about it!

When you have no helpers, see your helpers in God. When you have many helpers, see God in all your helpers. When you have nothing but God, see all in God. When you have everything, see God in everything. Under all conditions, stay thy heart only on the Lord.

— C. H. Spurgeon
