PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 11:27-28
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” (Luke 11:27)
Did Mary get a special blessing because she was Jesus’ mother?
Did Adam get a special blessing because he was God’s first child?
Does anyone get a special blessing because of their position with God?
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28)
Just because I’m a minister, or was raised in church, I am not more blessed.
Everyone has a special relationship to God as a much-loved child.
Everyone has a special purpose from God in the world.
But how do we respond to our special relationship and purpose?
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28)
We were created by God’s voice (Genesis 1:3), but are we listening to it?
Have we obeyed God’s call to live as children of God with value and a purpose?
No one, not even the greatest ‘saint’, is more blessed because of ‘position’.
It is our heart response, how we receive or reject God’s gracious blessing to us.
If you want to feel blessed today, live like God’s child, for God’s purpose!
PRAYER
Lord, I am God’s child, created for God’s purpose. Help me to enjoy this special identity. But even more, help me to “hear and obey” it!
There are times (many?) I hear but I don’t do! Other times I hear but respond late – regretfully. Lord help me to be more responsive to your calling – to your prodding! Help me to hear and to obey – do! Its not good to hear and then just let it float by – or even make a vague promise to do it later and then not do it. Lord, please don’t give up on me I pray!
Lord thank you for this day – help us remember not to celebrate the humans ways your awesome power works through, but to glorify the way You work through all things. Thank you for giving us the wisdom to realize that we couldn’t have come this far on our own strength.
Knowing and doing the Word of the Lord. And loving it makes the circle complete. Open ears to hear. Open eyes to see. Open hearts to do His will as His follower. Help me this day Lord to do Your will as Your servant, a child of the King.
