According to God’s righteousness!

Posted on October 30, 2020October 29, 2020 by Norm

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: 2 Samuel 21-22

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

“The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness.” (2 Samuel 22:25)
Is this true… is this God’s inspired truth or just David’s perspective?
All scripture is God-breathed, but what exactly does that mean?
Does it mean that every word is true and accurate… including inaccurate words?
My goal is not to undermine faith in scripture, but to better understand it.
David is actually wrong here, it is not according to his righteousness.
The drama of his life is proof that he is not clean in God’s sight.
How was David a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22)?
Because God’s heart is gracious, not because David’s heart was righteous and clean.
We must be SO careful when we read scripture, to remember God’s grace in it all.
Ultimately Jesus reveals the true and accurate picture of God.
He is a God of grace, not of legalism and ‘eye for eye’ justice (as Israel thought).
The Spirit inspired David to write what he thought about himself and God.
The Spirit did this to reveal how God graciously works with sinful, flawed people.
God stoops to our level in Jesus, so that we might be restored us to Jesus’s level!
PRAYER
Lord, forgive us for misunderstanding and misrepresenting God. May your Spirit continue to reveal the truth of who God is, and who we are in you!

Justice – doing what’s right – even in keeping promises and rectifying past wrongs. When will the blood stop flowing – even in the face of injustice? I think of the 7 men who were killed to avenge the death of the Gibeonites – blood for blood. The way of the temple was by the blood of sacrifice for sin. The blood – the life of the offered animal – had to be offered. But that was not a permanent solution. Jesus offered his blood, his life, once and for all. In gratitude, am I ready to offer my life for Him?

“As for God, his way is perfect:
    The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure. “

Once again I am reminded that God is my Rock, my security, my fortress and deliverer. And in that power I go forward this day serving Him in all I do and say. He continues to give me the strength to live for Him also this day guiding my feet in the way that I should go. May others also see today that I am His and He is mine.

I’m my Beloved’s and He is mine
His banner over me is love
I’m my Beloved’s and He is mine
His banner over me is love
I’m my Beloved’s and He is mine
His banner over me is love
His banner over me is love

    [Verse 2]
He brought me to His banqueting table
His banner over me is love
He brought me to His banqueting table
His banner over me is love
He brought me to His banqueting table
His banner over me is love
His banner over me is love

    [Verse 3]
He lifted me up to the heavenly places
His banner over me is love
He lifted me up to the heavenly places
His banner over me is love
He lifted me up to the heavenly places
His banner over me is love
His banner over me is love

think about it!

The difference between involvement and commitment is like and eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was involved – the pig was committed.
